A Message From Pastor Rebecca

A Message From Pastor Rebecca

By the time you read this, I will be in the midst of moving into the Sipes parsonage. It has been an absolutely unbelievable whirlwind of work since October 30th when the house was finally level on the foundation so the renovations could begin in earnest. Over a few short weeks, I saw a very old, sagging building become a new and charming home. Since I will be spending most of my Advent getting settled, I decided that “Coming Home” would be a good theme for my Advent sermons this year.

For the first Sunday of Advent, the lectionary gives us scriptures that focus not on the coming of baby Jesus but the Second Coming of our risen Lord. We don’t know when that will be or what kind of world Jesus will be coming home to. As we get closer to the darkest time of the year, we need God to shed some light on the question of whether we are ready to welcome him into our homes and into our hearts.

Over the next four Sundays, I invite you to think about your own homecomings. How did you get there? What baggage did you need to leave by the side of the road? When you arrived, how did you feel? For those of you who have long since left home, where is home now? And where is God in your homecoming story? These are some of the questions we will explore this season, and remember, wherever you spend the holidays, Jesus will be waiting for you to come home to him.

I’m not going anywhere, but I have a lot of thanksgiving to do for all the individuals and organizations that donated time, talent and treasure to the parsonage project. I am so grateful for the many monetary and in-kind donations:

-TLPC for the donation of $14,000

-Mountain Hardware for free paint

-Chris and Melinda Shea for free primer

-Kari and Lance Grosz for free lighting and bath fixtures

-ZLine for the free dishwasher and stove

-CalNeva for free bathroom vanity and shower glass

And I am feeling doubly blessed for the labor of some really great people: Vince Brennan, Tom Conk, Dennis Dodds, Sue and Dwight Hatano, Jen Jackson, Dave and Rob McCormick, Lisa and Eric McCready, Cathy and Earl Pearson, Jeff Rowe, Gordon Shaw and Sue Rae Irelan, Chris Shea, Scott Stafford,  Marie Strassburger, John and Kathleen Zemaitis, Swenja Ziegler,  Pastor Melanie Oliver, Scott Olsen and the volunteers from Loomis UMC, all the good folks at Madole Construction, and some hard workers: Fernando, Eduardo, Tim and his son Travis, and I know there are others. Whoever you are, I’m sure you are on someone’s gratitude list this year, and I pray that you will have a very blessed Thanksgiving.

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

Colossians 2:6-7

November is Stewardship Month — Building Our Future Together

November is Stewardship Month — Building Our Future Together

As we look ahead with hope and purpose, our focus for 2026 centers on three meaningful priorities that reflect who we are and who we feel called to be as a church community:

1. Making Meaningful Connections in Truckee
We want to deepen our presence in the wider community—showing up, serving, and building relationships that reflect God’s love in tangible ways.

2. Beautifying Our Campus for All
From continued improvements to welcoming spaces, to ensuring our campus is open and inviting, we’re committed to creating a place where everyone feels at home.

3. Outreach to Youth for a Safe and Connective Space
Our young people need spaces where they can gather, grow, and be supported. In 2026, we plan to expand our efforts to offer youth a safe, vibrant, and nurturing community.

As we enter Stewardship Month, we invite you to prayerfully consider how your gifts of time, talent, and treasure can help bring these goals to life. Together, we can build a future rooted in hospitality, connection, and care.

Please take a moment to fill out your Commitment Card — either during Sunday Worship or online at the button below. Your commitment helps us plan, dream, and continue growing in love and service together.

Thank you for being a vital part of this journey.

Christmas Eve at Church of the Mountains

Christmas Eve at Church of the Mountains

We’re excited to celebrate the joy and wonder of Christmas Eve with you and our friends in the Truckee faith community.  Mark your calendar and plan to join us as we prepare our hearts for the birth of Christ.

4:00 PM – Truckee Lutheran Presybyterian Church (TLPC) Family Service

Our friends from Truckee Lutheran Presbyterian Church (TLPC) will lead a family-friendly Christmas gathering perfect for families wanting an earlier celebration. Expect joyful music, the Christmas story, and a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere.

5:30 PM – Christmas Bell Ringing Service (Church of the Mountains)

Join us for a cherished Church of the Mountains tradition as we ring our historic bell to welcome Christmas. Everyone is invited to ring the bell for their Christmas wish, creating a beautiful moment of community hope and joy. For the kids, we’ll also have bell-shaped cookies to decorate—a festive and fun treat to celebrate the season.

7:30 PM – Candlelight Service (Church of the Mountains)

Enjoy Christmas Eve evening in quiet reverence, serenity and beauty. Our candlelight service gathers us together for community,  traditional carols, the reading of the nativity story, and the gentle glow of candles filling the sanctuary—a timeless way to welcome the holy night.

Be Part of Bringing Our New Evening Service to Life!

We’re excited to share that we’re launching a new Evening Worship Service — designed for those who long to gather in worship and community but find that Sunday mornings don’t fit their schedules. This new service will offer a relaxed, welcoming space to connect with God and one another at a different time of day.

We’re in the early stages of planning and would love your help! If you’re interested in joining the committee to help bring this vision to life — from music and hospitality to outreach and planning — we’d love to have you on board.

And if you’d like to attend once the service begins, let us know! We’ll keep you updated as we finalize the launch date. Together, we can create another meaningful way to worship and grow in faith.
