Message from Pastor Rebecca
Friends, last week we had an alternative blessing of the animals. Instead of bringing the animals in for a blessing, I provided materials to make blessing bags so I could send you all out to do the blessing. The recyclable bags contained dog treats, a prayer of blessing, a quote from Meister Eckhart, and an invitation to worship with us. Your job is to hand those out to the pet lovers in your neighborhood that you meet when you are out and about. In addition to blessing their pets, this is a perfect opportunity to invite them to church so they can be blessed as well. I have extras for anyone who wants to pick some up this Sunday. One of the hymns we sang was “God of the Sparrow, God of the Whale.” As we were singing, I remembered that I had once written new verses to that hymn to go along with a pet blessing I did some years ago. The emphasis that year was on our stewardship of all God’s creation. Here it is for your singing pleasure: God of the Sparrow: An Adaptation God of the threatened God in our crisis First verse by Jaroslav J. Vajda ©1983 Jaroslav J. Vajda |

Volunteer Opportunity: Greet Guests for Truckee’s Haunted Tour
Church of the Mountains is excited to be one of the host sites for this year’s Truckee Historical Haunted Tour! On October 16 and 17, our sanctuary will be alive with music as the OK Chorale performs for guests from 5:00–10:00 pm. We need a few volunteers each evening to help greet visitors, answer simple questions, and offer a warm welcome to everyone who walks through our doors. If you can serve for a couple of hours (or the full evening), we’d love to have your support! The Truckee Historical Haunted Tour is more than just a fun, small-town cultural event—it also raises funds for the nonprofit Trails & Vistas. Proceeds support The Dreaming Tree, an interactive art-in-nature field trip at Lake Tahoe where over 400 local 3rd graders get to explore, create, and learn with poets, artists, musicians, and storytellers. To sign up as a volunteer on October 16 or 17, click on the link below to send an email to Kathleen Zemaitis. Come be part of this special community tradition—and help us extend the spirit of hospitality at Church of the Mountains! For more infomation visit:
