A Message From Pastor Rebecca

A Message From Pastor Rebecca

Then the LORD answered me and said: Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so that a runner may read it. For there is still a vision for the appointed time [Habukkuk 2:2-3]

What excited me about coming to Truckee is that, despite all the challenges of being church these days, you believe that there is still a vision for the appointed time. In fact, you have not only been writing it but making it plain for all to see!

The improvements you have made to this historic church in the last few years have attracted visitors and new building users alike. Outside, the walls are freshly painted, the gardens newly planted. Inside, “morning has broken” on Todd Tannis’ wonderful "Mornings in the Mountains" mural in the sanctuary. All this beauty reinforces the message that a new day is dawning for Church of the Mountains. And more is on the way: planned renovations to the Danforth Cottage and Sipes’ Parsonage will not only visually enhance our corner of Church Street but will entice more people into the spiritual heart of downtown Truckee.

We are already extending that invitation through increased engagement on social media, as well as word-of-mouth, and more community members are coming to know us as the church that preaches and practices God’s inclusive love. Hosting well-attended arts, cultural and community events—such as the Pride Breakfast and Pride Shabbat, Tahoe Music Alive concerts, and the Truckee Haunted Historical Tour—is giving us more frequent opportunities for spreading our message and mission.

None of this would be happening without your “passion for the possible” and your faithful, generous gifts of time, talent and treasure. But this new day has just begun, friends, and there is still a whole lot more to do. You have a new pastor, and we are seeking a new church administrator and trying to build a new worship team. Meanwhile, we have hopes for small groups, an evening fellowship, and outreach to youth and adults who don’t have a spiritual home. To be a small church with a huge heart, joyfully inviting all our neighbors to follow Jesus, thrive in community and heal the world: this is the vision that gets me going in the morning. What keeps me going is the grace of God and your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service and your witness.

Stay tuned for information about our fall stewardship effort to continue reaching for our mission for Church of the Mountains to be the "heart of Truckee."

No Tricks, Just Treats — 500 Visitors Filled Our Hallowed Halls!

No Tricks, Just Treats — 500 Visitors Filled Our Hallowed Halls!

What a night to remember!

More than 500 visitors came through our dear historic church during the Truckee Historical Haunted Tour. The evening was filled with laughter, local lore, and a delightful performance by the OK Chorale Quartet.

One of the highlights of the night — everyone had the chance to ring our beloved historic church bell, filling the air with joyful sounds and community spirit.

The Truckee Historical Haunted Tour is more than just a fun, small-town cultural event — it also raises funds for the nonprofit Trails & Vistas. Proceeds support The Dreaming Tree, an interactive art-in-nature field trip at Lake Tahoe where more than 400 local 3rd graders get to explore, create, and learn alongside poets, artists, musicians, and storytellers.

Thank you to everyone who visited and shared in the spirit of community, history, and creativity!

Thank You for Your Generosity!

Thank You for Your Generosity!

As we move into the fall season, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your incredible generosity.

Because of your thoughtful donations of winter clothing, bedding, household basics, personal care supplies, and nonperishable foods, our neighbors in the North Tahoe/Truckee community will be warmer, cared for, and nourished this winter through the efforts of Sierra Community House.

Your gifts of warm coats, blankets, diapers, toiletries, and high-protein foods truly make a difference for families in need.

Thank you for showing what it means to love and serve our community. Your kindness shines brightly this season!

Help Us Spread the Word—Musicians Wanted!

Help Us Spread the Word—Musicians Wanted!

We are looking for gifted musicians to help lead worship and create joyful Sunday mornings—and we’d love your help getting the word out!

We are building a small worship band and are seeking keyboardists, guitarists, and singers with strong people skills who enjoy collaborating. Our music spans contemporary Christian, jazz, gospel, blues, folk, and bluegrass. A piano, keyboard, and full sound system are available, along with a library of curated hymn and contemporary Christian scores and slides.

These are paid positions with flexible, negotiable rates.
If you—or someone you know—would be a great fit, please share this invitation and send a resume to comumctruckee@gmail.com

Join us every Monday 10-11am at Church of the Mountains (weather and road conditions permitting)

Judy Jensen, the group leader welcomes everyone to participate.

We read and discuss the books we have chosen in an informal discussion and look forward to spending time and sharing our faith with one another. We pray as an introduction to our study—and we close with prayer.

Our group are also members of the Prayer Net and welcome requests that come to us through the larger church body.
