Sipes Parsonage Renovation Update

Sipes Parsonage Renovation Update

We’ll be sharing weekly updates on the Sipes Parsonage renovation—stay tuned as we bring this special home back to life!

Be sure to click on our video below to get a sneak peek at the inside of the extreme makeover of the Sipes Parsonage!  We can't thank our volunteer teams enough for all your hard work - together we're making huge progress!

Foundation: The cement truck arrived right on time on Tuesday (hallelujah!) and the house will be level on Friday November 7.

Kitchen: The kitchen has been drywalled and being prepared for the kitchen renovation this weekend.

Laundry Room: The laundry room is in the process of being framed up and ready for installation this weekend.

Floors: We're finalizing the underlayment of all the floors in preparation for the carpet being installed on Monday November 10.

Bedrooms: In both bedrooms the closets will be done by this Friday November 7 and ready for a coat of paint.

Painting: We're still hard at work painting all the ceilings and walls.  The large bookshelves are nearly done being painted.

Appliances & Cabinets: Our shiny new (and donated!) appliances have arrived, and cabinets and flooring are rolling in. Materials will be stored in the Fellowship Hall as work continues through November.

Stay tuned for more updates as we get the home ready to welcome Pastor Rebecca, Hank, and Sophie — just in time for Thanksgiving!

Be Part of Bringing Our New Evening Service to Life!

We’re excited to share that we’re launching a new Evening Worship Service — designed for those who long to gather in worship and community but find that Sunday mornings don’t fit their schedules. This new service will offer a relaxed, welcoming space to connect with God and one another at a different time of day.

We’re in the early stages of planning and would love your help! If you’re interested in joining the committee to help bring this vision to life — from music and hospitality to outreach and planning — we’d love to have you on board.

And if you’d like to attend once the service begins, let us know! We’ll keep you updated as we finalize the launch date. Together, we can create another meaningful way to worship and grow in faith.

Loomis UMC Work Team Returns November 8-9 to Help with Sipes Parsonage Renovation

Loomis UMC Work Team Returns November 8-9 to Help with Sipes Parsonage Renovation

We’re thrilled to welcome back our friends from Loomis UMC this weekend as they return to help with the Sipes Parsonage renovation project! This dedicated work team has been an incredible blessing, bringing both skilled hands and joyful hearts to our efforts.

This visit, they’ll be focusing on installing the kitchen and laundry room — two big milestones that will bring us even closer to completing the renovation. Their continued partnership reminds us of the power of shared faith and service, and how much we can accomplish together.

Please keep the Loomis team in your prayers for safe travels and a productive weekend of work. And if you see them around, be sure to say hello and thank them for their generous spirit and hard work!

A Message from UMC District Superintendent Rev. Mike Harrell

A Message from UMC District Superintendent Rev. Mike Harrell

Dear Pastors and Lay Ministers, Lay Leaders and Lay Members to ACS,

As a kid, I had a very active imagination. Thoughts of ghosts, goblins, and monsters often sent me into overdrive. Because of that, Halloween was a particularly challenging time for the adults in my life as they tried to help me manage all of the anxiety and fear that the season conjured in me. Eventually, one of my grandparents sat me down and helped me begin to understand that there were many things in life that were reasonable to feel fear and anxiety about and none of them had anything to do with werewolves, witches, or brain eating zombies. Admittedly, they took a tough love approach that might not have been entirely developmentally appropriate, but I got the message.

On this Halloween, with millions of people in our country on the verge of losing vital food assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and access to affordable health insurance with the end of federal subsidies, the memory of that conversation with my grandfather is piercing.

In my short time as the District Superintendent for Great Northern, it is already apparent to me that many of our churches are already engaged in vital ministries providing food assistance in their respective communities. In some places the local church is a food distribution site working in partnership with their local food bank or other agencies, some of our churches provide hot meals to their larger community on a regular basis, others offer sack lunches. Some churches have teams of people that volunteer on a regular basis at their local food bank or a neighborhood soup kitchen. Other churches give generously to those agencies in their community doing this work. For those of you already committed to these ministries focused on addressing food insecurity in your community, thank you.

For our churches who focus on different missional priorities in their communities, I want to encourage you to prayerfully consider how you might put greater emphasis on addressing issues of food scarcity in your community in the weeks ahead. I believe this is an “all hands on deck” moment for people of compassion and good will. Let us be practical, collaborative, and generous as we discern how to meet this moment of national need in our communities. If there are specific ways you think I can be helpful and supportive of your respective efforts, don’t hesitate to reach out and let me know.

There are many things in this moment that are reasonable for us to feel fearful and anxious about, for ourselves, our neighbors, our nation, and for the world. But let us not be overcome, rather together let us meet the fear and anxiety with tangible acts of compassion, generosity, and service that give hope to our neighbors in need and the larger communities that we are a part of.

May it be so

How You Can Help with the Sipes Parsonage Project

How You Can Help with the Sipes Parsonage Project

We’re getting closer to making the Sipes Parsonage move-in ready for Pastor Rebecca, Hank and Sophie by Thanksgiving, and there are several ways you can lend a hand!

Volunteer to Paint on November 15
We are recruting volunteers to paint the final walls of the Sipes Parsonage on Saturday November 15, 9am-2pm . If you’d like to volunteer, please email Lisa McCready at lisakmccready@gmail.com.

Donate Ace Hardware Coupons
If you receive Ace Hardware coupons in the mail or newspaper, please bring them to church on Sunday and place them in the offering plate. We’ll use them toward purchasing paint and building materials for the renovation.

Your time, energy, and donations make all the difference as we bring this special home back to life for Pastor Rebecca and Hank!

Heads Up in the Fellowship Hall!

Heads Up in the Fellowship Hall!

As we continue the Sipes Parsonage renovation project, we’ll be temporarily storing appliances and building materials in the Fellowship Hall throughout November.

Please use extra care when moving through the area — and thank you for your patience and understanding as we make space for this exciting project!

We can’t wait to see the finished home come together — and we’re so grateful for everyone’s help and flexibility along the way.

Help Us Spread the Word—Musicians Wanted!

Help Us Spread the Word—Musicians Wanted!

We are looking for gifted musicians to help lead worship and create joyful Sunday mornings—and we’d love your help getting the word out!

We are building a small worship band and are seeking keyboardists, guitarists, and singers with strong people skills who enjoy collaborating. Our music spans contemporary Christian, jazz, gospel, blues, folk, and bluegrass. A piano, keyboard, and full sound system are available, along with a library of curated hymn and contemporary Christian scores and slides.

These are paid positions with flexible, negotiable rates.
If you—or someone you know—would be a great fit, please share this invitation and send a resume to comumctruckee@gmail.com
