Introducing: Truckee Thursday Backyard Kickbacks Beginning June 25!

Church of the Mountains is launching a brand-new weekly gathering designed especially to provide a warm, inviting space for young people to gather and connect right here in Truckee!

Every Truckee Thursday evening throughout the summer, we are opening up our church backyard and transforming it into a cozy oasis for the community. Come wind down, meet new friends, and enjoy the beautiful summer evenings.

  • When: Every Thursday this summer beginning June 25 | 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

  • Where: The Church of the Mountains Backyard

  • The Vibes: Acoustic music, refreshing mocktails, and a comfortable, cozy atmosphere.

We are incredibly excited to share that the evenings will feature live acoustic music by our very own Megan Lacy, along with a rotation of some of her talented visiting friends!

Want to Help? To make these evenings a success, we need a few smiling faces to help host! If you would like to volunteer to help out for any Thursday this summer, please contact Kathleen at kathleen.zemaitis@gmail.com to get on the schedule.

Spread the word, invite a friend, and we'll see you in the backyard!

We are so excited to be hosting our new Truckee Thursday Backyard Kickbacks this summer! To turn our church backyard into the ultimate welcoming, relaxed community hangout, we need your help adding some cozy mountain vibes.

We are looking for donations of:

  • Picnic blankets to use as blankets on the grass

If you would like to donate any clean, gently used (or new!) blankets or seat pillows looking for a good home, please drop off in the Fellowship Hall before Tuesday June 23.

Celebrating All Who Nurture, Mentor, and Guide

Celebrating All Who Nurture, Mentor, and Guide

This Sunday, we pause to celebrate and give thanks for the incredible caregivers, mentors, and role models who enrich our lives, our families, and our church community.

While the calendar calls it Father’s Day, at Church of the Mountains we know that the gift of parental love and guidance comes in many beautiful forms that transcend traditional labels. Today, we honor:

The Parents and Caregivers who love, protect, and sacrifice for their children day in and day out.

The Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, and Extended Family who step in with wisdom, humor, and open arms.

The Mentors, Teachers, and Coaches who invest their time to guide the next generation, offering a steady hand and a listening ear.

The Spiritual Leaders and Pillars who model faith, kindness, and grace, helping us grow into who we are meant to be.

We also hold space in our hearts today for those for whom this day carries grief, longing, or complex emotions. Please know that you are wrapped in the warm embrace of this community.

To everyone who pours out their heart to nurture, guide, and give the invaluable gift of unconditional love - thank you. May you feel deeply appreciated and blessed this weekend!

Welcome to our newest members!

Your Giving in Action: Celebrating 698 Graduates at Africa University!

Your Giving in Action: Celebrating 698 Graduates at Africa University!

When you give to Church of the Mountains, your impact stretches far beyond our local community. A portion of our congregation’s donations goes directly to the United Methodist Church Conference Fund, supporting vital connectional ministries worldwide - including Africa University.

We are thrilled to share some inspiring news from their 32nd commencement ceremony held on June 6th:

  • A Historic Milestone: 698 students from 21 African countries graduated this year!

  • Expanding Access: This ceremony celebrated the very first cohort of the fully online Global Campus, allowing working professionals across the continent to earn their degrees remotely.

  • Academic Excellence: A record number of students achieved the highest academic honors, with over 10% earning first-class honors.

  • Leading the Way: Female students made up the majority of the graduating class at 54.6%, and the university continues to lead the region in sustainability through its expanding solar energy plants.

"This milestone reflects our commitment to expanding access to transformative education and also responding to the evolving needs of our students and working professionals everywhere."

— Rev. Peter Mageto, Vice Chancellor

Because Africa University is a denomination-wide ministry supported by United Methodist connectional giving, your regular offerings helped make this graduation possible. Thank you for your continued generosity and for investing in the next generation of global leaders, innovators, and faith-filled change-makers!

Join us every Monday 10-11am at Church of the Mountains (weather and road conditions permitting)

Judy Jensen, the group leader welcomes everyone to participate.

We read and discuss the books we have chosen in an informal discussion and look forward to spending time and sharing our faith with one another. We pray as an introduction to our study—and we close with prayer.

Our group are also members of the Prayer Net and welcome requests that come to us through the larger church body.

Church Giving is Easy

Church Giving is Easy

At Church of the Mountains, our ministry is made possible through the generous support of our community. Your gifts help sustain meaningful worship, inspiring music, outreach to our neighbors, and a welcoming space where all are invited to gather, reflect, and grow.

Every contribution—large or small—supports the life of our church: from caring ministries and community events to maintaining our historic sanctuary and creating opportunities for connection and spiritual renewal. Together, we are nurturing a place of hope, beauty, and belonging in the heart of our mountain community.

Thank you for supporting the ministry of Church of the Mountains and for being part of all that God is doing here. We are deeply grateful for your faithfulness and generosity.
